Bitchy McPatronpants

We're lucky enough to have a ton of computers, and it's rare for them to be all filled. However, tonight a section of them are blocked off for a computer class, so there's not one available at this precise moment. This of course prompted Bitchy McPatronpants to throw a fit because a computer is not available RIGHT NOW.

This in and of itself is not notable, but the specific content of her complaint was. She started off with the standard blah blah blah: I am a TAXPAYER and this library NEVER has what I want, etc. Then she said, "If you didn’t have so many damn kiddie books you could get some more computers which is what this place really needs."

Seriously? SERIOUSLY? You are complaining because a LIBRARY has too many books? Too many children's books? Because encouraging children to read is such a terrible thing? And so much less important than your dating website or Craigslist or whatever?

Incidentally, a computer opened up about 30 seconds after her rant.

You should have immediately reserved that computer.

That reminds me of the time a patron bitched and moaned about how we never have what she was looking for (in this case, travel books). I let her complain as I walked to the travel section, where I promptly found exactly what she was looking for. When she left, she did thank me, but I was pleased to have rendered her speechless (and wrong).

It should hurt to be that entitled.

I will bet you that the only book this woman has in her house is published by the phone company. Hope she doesn't have any kids, she obviously doesn't give a crap about their education.

At least she realized that there was a cost for what she was demanding, which is something most entitled people never understand. Of course, suffer sacrifice the little children isn't quite what we expected...

I gotta say, though, it was a bit refreshing to read about someone *not* whining "think of the chilllldren," though.

Still a massive case of entitlement, though. It takes balls to come out and say "I'm more important than kids," but it's not really the *admirable* kind of fortitude.

Same things happens in our media centre. We have 30 computers, but when there's a computer class from the nearby college, 12 of them are filled by that. Usually people only have to wait 10 min or so, but MY are they tetchy about it.

She didn't think that the parents of the children served by the children's books pay taxes, too? Or the local business people that will one day hire those kids? It's a community resource.

How long would she have to pay her taxes to make up the cost of a single computer, anyway?

That's the thing I don't get at all about these "I pay taxes" mofos. They don't seem to realize that everybody else there, does, too! So do I (I like to trot this out to those "I pay your salary" mofos--I'm like, well, I pay my salary, too). Paying taxes does not make you special.

I always wished I could smack a nickel down on the counter and say "There's your money back. Take a hike."

I swear I'm doing that on my last day of work, when I'm 72. Along with a few other things. :)

I do this! But only when people lecture me about how we shouldn't leave so many lights on, usually the one I'm using at that moment over my desk. I smile and hand them a penny and tell them to keep the change. Then I explain how to convert kilowatt hours - very nicely, of course! Nice but persnickety hasn't gotten me a complaint yet, and O is it rewarding to see the looks on their faces!

"If you didn’t have so many damn kiddie books you could get some more computers which is what this place really needs."

Maybe she should take her precious millions in taxes and buy her own frickin computer. Then she could use it any damn time she wants, and not have to worry about that substandard libary with all it's damn useless books.

Just venting, sorry.

PS: go eff yourself, mcpatronpants.

THIS.

I feel kinda sorry for people like this. Seriously, how do they not know that other people look at them and think they are full bughouse nuts or worse, that others view them as whiny child in acting up in public?

The children's librarian has a wide, toothy grin for that particular patron and one simple question:

"Why do you hate children so much?"

HA! That is perfect, because there's no good way for the patron to answer the question. I'm keeping that one in my mental file folder called Comebacks.
