Instead, we are just supposed to spread ourselves more thinly (while not actually getting rid of any of our teaching, reference, collection development, research guide writing, or other tasks).
The weirdest thing is that we actually have the money to hire someone. The boss is head of public services and is a control freak who takes on way too much work. I swear part of the reason she chose not to hire someone is that she didn't want to take the time to go through the process.
