I sat her down, showed her how to search and then said "you'll want to look through the articles and find those that work for your topic. You may need to try different keywords..."
She interrupted me and just asked, "can I print these?"
So basically, she just grabbed five random articles that were loosely related to her topics and printed them out. I tried to explain several times that research is a process, that what she's doing will not help her in any way and is just eating up her printing money, but she didn't want to hear it. Then she complained about how long the articles were.
Why do we not have mandatory library instruction!?!? I feel terrible, like I failed her, but short of tying her to the chair and explaining what a database is, I don't know what I could have done.
