Are we having fun yet?

Question for all you lucky people who are in charge of tax forms at your library:

Has anyone received Schedule A (Itemized Deductions) yet? We received all the other various schedules (B-SE). I know I ordered them, but I haven't even gotten a notification of shipping.

However, the 1040 Instructions are finally arriving today!

I knew the 1O40Is would arrive today (they sent 12 cartons when I'm sure my order said 10). No sign of Sched A (unless it's in one of those extras, though the labels do not say).

As of yesterday we had not received either Schedule A or the 1040 instruction booklets. We have a foot of snow and nasty weather here so it's doubtful they came today, so hopefully tomorrow.

The vast majority of people have been real cool and know that we're not a fault for the forms and booklets not being there, however there was one asshole who when I told him that we didn't have the booklets yet sneered that we at the library were "passing the buck" of blame. Yeah, right, sir, we're just hoarding the instruction booklets in the back just to get a sick thrill of getting "over" on douchebags like you. Fuck off.

Not so much snow here so UPS came through!

We delayed putting out ANYTHING this year until the state forms arrived, and just kept saying, sorry, we hope they'll be delivered soon. and thankfully people were not too upset. Sorry you have to deal with the other sort who think we print them up in the back room!

At least you're getting state forms. Georgia, in its infinite wisdom, has decided that anyone who wants one has to call their order forms number or get it online, because they aren't going to send state forms to the library any more.

Well, that bites. I'm always relieved at how easy it is to deal with New York's tax department--they have 3 ways to make contact and place orders and have always been helpful. It's a plus that we're close enough to Albany to get quick delivery, too.

Georgia has their website and a phone number. That's it. We're expecting things to get crazy with patrons requesting that we print the forms out for them as April 15 gets closer.

We have the schedule, but we're waiting on the instruction booklets for the 1040 and 1040EZ.

We got the A booklets almost 2 weeks ago (and they went fast, sadly, because people grabbed them in desperation. I had to reorder more today!). The EZs arrived yesterday, and the regular ones today. So where are the Schedule As?? Not even a shipping notice.

If we had Sch A, they're all gone. We only have instructions for 1040A at this time.
We are receiving multiple calls, asking if we have them, of course.
It's super fun.

More fun than anyone deserves to have. Hope things get better soon!

I don't know about the Schedule A, but we're still waiting on instructions. I'm getting tired of the patron glares every time I tell them they're not in yet.

Hope you get your booklets soon! Honestly, people have no patience, and what are they going to do if the IRS and individual states stop providing paper forms and insist everyone has to e-file?

I hope so, too. The worst part was that one of our patrons went to other libraries and complained by saying that we don't carry them anymore. And yeah, I don't want to think about when there are no paper forms.

Come to the library and try to get us to do the filing for them, of course! (And if they ask me, my answer will not be no, it will be hell no, because there's no way I want to deal with that kind of risk. Librarians are not a) doctors, b) lawyers, or c) tax preparers/accountants! And my boss will back me, because the last ingredient we need in the Suckage Pie is a lawsuit by someone who thinks we messed up their taxes!)

Tax time is one of the times when I'm especially glad I'm not working in a library anymore. I just wanted to tell everyone "It's the 21st century, just file online."
